Dillon 2 Months: Stupid Needles

Ugh. The dreaded day had arrived. Time for our 2 month old appointment. How in the world was I going to take this sweet, smiling, cooing boy, flashing his dimple at me, to the doctor to get 3 shots?!?!? The very thought just broke my heart into pieces, so I had Patrick come along, to help me stay strong. (It wasn't as bad as it could have been. Cuddles make 'most everything better.)
On the other hand, I was excited to see how much he'd grown. I knew by sight, he'd been keeping up with the summer weeds, and by physical standards in comparison to the much older girl's he'd hung out with, his hands and feet were twice as big, but the nurse in me wanted to see how everything looked on paper! Our suspicions were correct in thinking he's a big (and very healthy) boy!!!

Weight: 13 lb 6 oz AKA 85% on the growth chart
Height: 24.5 in AKA 95% on the growth chart
Head Circumference: 16.25 in AKA 75% on the growth chart

Since the beginning of this month we've been doing exclusive pumping and bottle feeding (both of us being treated for thrush was a real kick start!) which is a good and a bad thing. While it's a total pain being tied to a pump for 2.5-4 hours a day and having a million dishes as a result, being able to share the feeding responsibility makes my life a little easier. Right now I'm managing to supply 50-70% of his daily intake, depending on the day, and I plan on trying to keep it up as long as possible. It's not easy to keep from getting discouraged. My boobs take a whole 30 minutes to fully respond (sometimes a little longer), even with heat and massaging, with a let down comparable to a damn leaky faucet. The only thing that keeps me going is wanting to provide the best possible nutrition for Dillon's health and development.

Here are a few of Dillon's milestones/personality traits blossoming this month:

1. He's getting more and more fun to hang out with. He can have some quick mood swings, like his Daddy, but for the most part he's getting pretty smiley, "talking", and trying really hard to laugh. Like really hard. You can tell by the face he makes that wants to laugh so bad, but doesn't quite know how to let it out just yet. A couple of times he's woke himself up from a nap giggling a little bit, which is super cute.
2.  I'm at a loss on how I'm going to get him to take a nap on his own, since he currently only naps when he's laying on my stomach or in my lap......it's really sweet and I enjoy it, but I can see how it may pose a problem in the near future! He's been sleeping through the night for the last 2 weeks (with the except of 1 or 2 random nights when he briefly woke up for a snack)!!!!
3. He likes to tug at your soul a bit when he's eating by hanging on to your fingers and staring deep into your eyes with those deep blue iris'. And when he's not doing that, he's helping you out by trying to hold the bottle and pull it closer to his mouth, while also telling the world to "Rock on".
4. And one of his new favorite things, besides bath time is trying to stand up while getting burped.
5. I'm so grateful that Dillon is a good traveler, since we're always on the go for one reason or another.
6. He had his first hot date. Is 2 months old too young for dating?
7. He'll take a pacifier now, in desperate times, but only the kind I didn't want him to like.....go figure.
8. He doesn't mind sleeping in with me until noon as long as I feed him every 2-3 hours to make up for night stretches.....and there's cuddling involved.
9. He gets this really pitiful frown on his face and starts crying if someone/something scares him. It's almost just as sad as it is hilarious.
10. He's getting very grabby these days, and loves to pull on my tubing while I'm pumping.

You Did WHAT in the Middle of the Airport?

You know how when you watch the news and start to lose all hope that there are any kind hearted people in this world? It's not true; it's just what the media wants you to believe.
The truth is, the good people just hardly ever make it on the news, but they're out there.
Everything about our boarding to go home went exponentially smoother than anything that happened to us previously (minus the fact that when we tried to check in with the machine, it directed to to the counter, and the guy behind the counter tried to tell us that we didn't actually have tickets!.......geez!
We beat traffic and got to the terminal with plenty of time to chillax, have a coffee, feed the babe, and pump. Oh yes, I pumped in the middle of the airport like a total rockstar!
If I flew the coachiest of coach on the way to Denver, then I definitely stepped it up a few notches for the ride home when the nicest stranger on our Frontier flight made me an offer I couldn't refuse (and I didn't even look nearly as pitiful as I did when stepping onto the Spirit plane).
"You've got your hands full," the complete stranger sitting in the front row of first class said to me as I turned the corner from the tunnel to walk down the isle.
"Oh yes," I replied, smiling and nodding.
"You want my seat so you can have more room?"
I just laughed and kept nodding my head, assuming he was kidding.
"Do you?" he repeated.
"Wait.....Are you serious?!?!?"
"Yes. You can have my seat if you like, so you can have more room."
I looked back at Patrick, "Do you mind?" But I didn't really mean it. I WAS GOING TO SIT IN FIRST CLASS, BITHCES! I looked back at the nicest stranger ever, "This is my husband, Patrick. He'll be your partner in the back of the plane!" (I'm sure he wasn't at all expecting us to be sitting in the very back row of the plane, but the retarded attendant who checked us in moved us to the back, insisting we'd like it better there.)
I didn't quite know how to act, or what the etiquette was for first class. I accepted the warm nuts and ice water in a real glass by the flight attendant who even pulled my tray out for me.
I declined dinner and wine, partially because Dillon was wide awake and keeping me busy, partially because I didn't know what was already paid for and what went on a tab and if I should ask the attendant to send it all back to the person it all belonged to. When she insisted on me eating a warm fresh sough dough roll, I accepted, and she unfolded my real cloth napkin, put it in my lap, unwrapped my butter and helped me reach my butter knife. "Would you like me to get your diaper bag out for you?" she asked.
Holy crap. No wonder people pay for these seats......
I thoroughly enjoyed the shortest flight ever (after I got over my fear of being sent back to my real seat), and reminensed over the great time we had as a family earlier that day, eating at a fantastic little Italian joint on a patio under a shade tree in Morrison, and taking some pictures of Dillon on the trails of Red Rocks. We wanted to sing to him on stage for the first time, but didn't make it out there soon enough for a concert to start gearing up.
And as fun as that day was, there's no place like home.......especially when totting around a bunch of baby supplies can be a real beat down after a while!

A Different Kind of Trip

When Lindsey and Greg's special day finally arrived, so did my husband, who'd been held hostage in Texas all week.
(Professional photo credit goes to the wedding photographer who's name I don't know!)
I quickly turned around to excuse the rude person, who was obviously invading my personal space by bumping into me in the hotel parking lot when I was loading all my gear into the car, when I looked up to see that handsome familiar face. Thank goodness it was him; it saved me from having to kick anyone's ass.....

It had been raining all week in the sunshine state, but this day was going to be beautiful for more reasons than cloudless skies.
Dillon and I headed to the mountain mansion to help the girls get ready (I'd been ready since 6:30am....the things you have to do when you have a baby!) and make floral arrangements for the reception, while Patrick tried to catch up on some much needed rest. Being in two weddings in two separate states in a single weekend is tough work!
We made a wise decision to dress Dillon in his fancy man suit at the latest possible moment, as evidenced by the yellow sludge running down his leg and soaking into the belt of the carseat when we arrived to the venue. Oh the joys.....
Everything about the wedding was perfect, especially the part where Lindsey told Greg he was her "breast friend" during her vows........I'm cracking up just thinking about it!
Our usual reception partying was cut extremely shy, given our particular circumstance, but not being available for endless dancing didn't stop us from finding just the right moment to sing the two love birds an intimate kpLOVE original, written with their unique story in mind.
Yeah....I may have started off a key too high, and Patrick may have played the chords in the wrong order during the first chorus, but we eventually found ourselves.
Besides, great performances come in all different forms and I was most worried about keeping Dillon from crying into the microphone. #success
Patrick was so tired he could barely breathe, so we turned it in much earlier than normal, but not before he got a very special voice message from a particular favorite Baylor Bears coach, Scott Drew!
The rest of our week was a whirlwind of packing and unpacking (not much different from the beginning of my week.....being a hobo isn't quite as easy when you're toting around baby gear), lots of driving, sharing grub and touring the new house of the Heather and Will duo, catching up with Stu and Laurie and hitting up their block party, helping save some random wild life from the brink of death, getting our fill of Breck Brewery hot wings, seeing an old work friend over fro yo.......okay okay, you got me! Most of our time revolved around food.
It was definitely a different kind of trip than we've taken in the past, but we always love our time in Denver!
Congratulations, MR. and MRS. Workman!! We love you guys!
